Executive Meeting Minutes – 29 April 2026

Crewkerne Probus Club Executive Meeting
Wednesday 29 April 2026 – 10.30 a.m. at the Cricket St Thomas Golf Club

  1. Present: T.L, B.G., A.M., R.F., D.B., N.F., M.L., I.J. and chaired by acting President M.H.
  2. Apologies received from: President Jon Jarrett, David Long, Chris Kitson, and Robbie Heyd Smith.
  3. Minutes of the previous meeting were approved and there were no matters arising.
  4. Officers’ reports:
    • Treasurer M Luff reported on a small surplus but all accounts were good. All costs are met and takings are up. There is a sum of money earmarked for President’s Charity which would be made up to £400. This was unanimously agreed. Mike commented on the meals gratuity system which was agreed to be decided by Mike. There was a unanimous vote of thanks to mike for his work.
    • Secretary I. Johns. Reported on all things in hand and there was a full update of his work for the A.G.M.
    • Functions Officer R Fowler presented a full report to go to the G.M. He reported on a good turnout for the May Ladies Platter at The Lordleaze. President to welcome everyone with Trevor Lowe negotiating timings with musician entertainer Chris Edmonds. It was agreed the format would be savoury platter, entertainment, then cakes etc with tea and coffee throughout. This format to be discussed afterwards with a view to the Christmas Lunch.
    • Catering Officer Mike, Are we happy with service? Is there sufficient variety? Occasionally Mike felt the service was less than the best but quantity was good. No problems.
    • Social Secretary Irvin reported on the successful garden party at President Jon Jarrett’s. But otherwise a quiet year. Plans are afoot for the Chard Museum and Willow weaving at ARK. Full report for the A.G.M.
    • Welfare report: Robbie Heyd -Smith aplogised for the meeting as his wife is poorly and he would like to ease out of this role. Trevor Lowe agreed to stand in for Robbie and will carry out care and concern for members and wives. Trevor will send cards and flowers to Robbie and Pat, and a card will be sent to Gerry Nicholas. Irvin to arrange set of cards and updated significant members dates list for Trevor.
    • Acting President Mark offered amp and mike with leads as Probus items which could be kept available at The Golf Club.
    • Transport Officer David long apologised but lifts are always available if members contact David.
  1. Speaker programme: Bob outlined speakers and subjects for the year ahead. Either lighthouses or a wartime film, David Pewsley, Prodigal Bicycles to name a few. Also new member Kevin Dillon will do presentations on NATO and other appropriate topics. President Mark Harris will propose the Children’s Hospice for charity and their Director Lucy will make a presentation to us. In all we are well covered for the coming year but fixing dates is yet to be finalised.
  2. The order for the AGM was finalised and the meeting finished at 12.15.
  3. Next Executive meeting will be the last Wednesday of July. 10.30 at Cricket St Thomas Golf Club
