Crewkerne Probus Club Executive Meeting
30 April 2025 – 10.30 a.m. at the Cricket St Thomas Golf Club
1. Attending:- Pres. D.L., M.L., R.F., R.H-S., N.F., B.G., C.K., M.H., J.J., D.B., I.J. (Apols lateness)
2. Minutes of the previous meeting were read and approved.
Matters arising: The Honours board requires updating. Bob agreed with Jon Jarrett to take original board (for scale) and new wings to Fiona to complete the task.
3. Officers’ reports:
- Treasurer Mike Luff presented accounts with our balance at £1900.07. Question asked as to why was it necessary to keep such a high reserve? In the event of any major cancellation or emergency it is prudent to have sufficient reserves. The full financial account for the year will be presented to the A.G.M.
- The Website to be amended. It was noted that there is a national website of all clubs but we do not figure on this!!!!! Irvin, as Secretary, to contact H.Q over this.
- Catering: Exec agreed to an increase for meals to £20 following the Golf Club’s increase. This needs to be ratified at the A.G.M. Mike has made a profit forecast of £136 but we do need to raise our membership numbers. It was noted that on this day the lift broke down and 2 members had to withdraw. Mike negotiated this with the Golf Centre as meals would be reduced.
- Welfare: Robbie reported on his visits and concerns for Gerry Reilly, Trevor Lowe and Mark Harris. However, with Trevor and Mark with us today they were warmly welcomed. Robbie also reported on the sad passing of Jim Prigg a previous loyal and long standing member and although he had moved away still maintained contact and interest in the Club through Roger Fowler. Robbie will keep members informed as to funeral arrangements.
- Functions officer Roger reported on a good Ladies lunch in May but with disappointing numbers. The Christmas lunch at The Lordleaze was excellent. Roger asked if we should drop to one event per year or maybe change the name? — SPRING LUNCH is suggested. Again it was stated that we need to recruit new members. Also that perhaps an alternative venue should be considered for the Spring Lunch.
- Social secretary reported on possible future events. The ARK centre in Merriott is a possible with a craft event suggested. ARK has a leader who has come through the Centre who could produce a withy bird feeder for members to complete and take away on the day. Date and information to be circulated. Bowls and a visit to the local car manufacturer to be considered.
- Transport: Contact to David Long would always result with assistance on transport.
- Speaker coordinator Bob has months covered as follows: May – Ladies lunch, June – Mike Plummer on South America, July – Paul Barker on classic car restoration, August – Ruby Bryant and friends on Kenya volunteering. Further events but not yet on fixed months include – Gerry Nicholas friend Eric Taylor ( Baptist Minister on Guernsey) on wartime, Mike Luff with another video production on local history, David Walsh on the local charity EVAG. All Members are asked to help in the search for interesting spaeakers.
4. President David Long thanked all the Committee for their loyal support throughout the year.
5. Arrangements were checked for a smooth procedure for the A.G.M. that would follow this meeting
6. A.O.B. Updating of adverts that we issue are now in hand. The main concern was the Misterton advert which Jon J will cover. All our documents for advertising need to be checked and updated.
7. Date of next Exec Meeting is Wed. 30th. July at 10.30 at Cricket St. Thomas Golf Club.
I.J. Secretary
