- Treasurer Mike Luff led discussion on the list of members. Some previous members who should or should not be listed were considered and advice given to Mike on people to follow up. Bob will contact Gerry Nicholas with reference to membership and the fact he had been unwell recently. Money for the Past President charity of Flood relief was discussed and a large dummy cheque was agreed to be presented by Jon Jarrett to David Welch possibly at the August meeting. Sec Irvin to provide Mike with an updated members list of significant dates.
- Secretary Irvin Johns reported on business. Gold leaf past president honours board to be complete. PP badges have been purchased ready for presentation. Fellowship officer Trevor has been provided with a pack of Probus cards. An email of thanks has been sent to Chard Museum. G.M. minutes have been circulated ahead of any vote next year giving members time to consider any issues before voting. It was noted that for the next AGM if a member cannot be present for voting they should be invited to make a proxy vote with the Secretary or President.
- .Catering Officer Mike Luff raised the question of a possible move to the Country Inn down the road which is also under the management of Cricket St Thomas Golf Club. They are aware of our interest but are in no position as yet to seriously consider such a move. This issue will be raised at times throughout the year especially as sch a venue would need to have up to date technological facilities. Mike also raised a suggestion for salads to be included in our menu choices. This will be explored.
- Fellowship Officer which Trevor thought should be Welfare Officer. Cards have been sent to Gerry Nicholas, Card and flowers to Margaret Morris, flowers and congrats to Paul Barker and new wife Christine, flowers will be presented to David and Audrey Long on their Diamond wedding anniversary.
- Social Secretary Irvin Johns reported on a successful Club visit to Chard Museum. Bob will confirm the treasurer of the museum for Mike to pay the £96. President Mark gave Irvin a slot at the dinner to check on numbers for the Garden Party at Roger and Mary Fowler’s on the 19th
- Function’s Officer Roger Fowler asked as to the success of the Lordleaze spring platter. The response has been very positive and should be repeated. Chris Edmonds accordion presentation was well received. The meeting felt that Christmas should be a dinner but two courses of mains ad pudding would be sufficient. Again holding this at The Lordleaze was felt to be appropriate.
- Transport Officer David Long will organise help for any member requiring driving to be at a meeting. President Mark will emphasise this again today at the lunch meeting.
- Speaker organiser Bob Griffiths has most sessions in hand. Future speakers include Alan Lawson on C.A.B., Kevin Dillon on a variety of topics to include N.A.T.O. and Mike Luff will continue with video presentations of local interest from a U3A group.
- President Mark Harris gave his thanks to all members of the Executive for their continued support and hard work. It was also noted that Probus was moving into it’s centenary year and we need to consider our contribution to this.
- The President’s garden party is to be held at Roger and Mary Fowler’s garden on the 19th of August. The chosen charity is Children’s Hospice Southwest and Lucy Perryman (Somerset fund raising Officer) will be in attendance and will talk to those present about the work they do. Entry is £8 a head with also a raffle, treasure hunt, quizzes and also cakes tea and coffee.
- LET’S SUPPORT THIS VERY WORTHWHILE CAUSE.
